History
Since the Stone Age, full lips with an accentuated border have been associated with beauty and youth for women of most ethnic backgrounds. Tribal people of both genders world wide, have introduced various materials into, and through, upper and lower lips, to alter shape, usually to enlarge them, to enhance beauty.

Cosmetics, and in particular, lipstick, can be traced back to ancient civilizations. Lipstick started to gain popularity in the 16th century, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1, who made blood-red lips and stark white faces a fashion statement. The focus of our face are eyes and lips.

From the above history, we know that the appearance of the lips has always played an important role in the perception and assessment of facial beauty.Plumper lips, as opposed to thin lips, soften the faces of both genders.
As people age, lips often lose fullness, which can make them seem older.

How do lips age?

Lips become thinner and flatter. When we lose facial fat, we also lose it in the lip area. Gravity causes our mouth start to turn down. Fine lines also form around our lips, which are often called 'smokers' lines' ( even if you don't smoke!), or 'lipstick lines'.
Besides ageing, lip deficiencies can be due to congenital absence of volume, symmetry, or due to trauma.
